Nigeria gained her independence from British rule on October 1, 1960. For the past 60 years, the country has celebrated this day as a national holiday.
There is a movie on Netflix titled “October 1”, a thriller film set in Colonial Nigeria which narrates the story of Danladi Waziri (Sadiq Daba), a police officer from Northern Nigeria who is posted to a remote town of Akote in Western Nigeria to investigate the frequent female murder cases in the community, and have the mystery solved before the Nigerian flag is raised on October 1, Nigeria's Independence Day.
The movie was mostly praised for its production design, cinematography and its exploration of themes including tribalism, western imperialism, Nigeria's unification, and also for establishing a strong connection between western culture and the cause of present-day Boko Haram insurgency amongst others.
I watched this movie about 2 years ago and I thought it was really good. I recommend it if you enjoy movies set in colonial times laden with deep history. Let me know what you think.
Until my next post, stay safe, stay strong and keep hope alive!

Love,
