Nigeria to the World!

It has just been announced that the final choice of new director for The World Trade Organization (WTO) will be between South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee and our very own Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. This is the first time in the organization’s 25-year history that a woman will take up this position.

Okonjo-Iweala has a track record of success and she stands a good chance of taking up this office and excelling at it. She spent 25-years of her career at the World Bank as a Development Economist and reached the rank of Managing Director, Operations. She also served as a two-time Finance Minister of Nigeria, briefly as Minister of Foreign Affairs and was the first female to hold both positions. She is also on the board of several companies and has spearheaded numerous negotiations and initiatives worth billion of dollars. Over the course of her career, she has received several accolades, honorary degrees and recognition.

If she wins, she will be the first African to be director general of the WTO. This is definitely a proud moment for Nigeria.

Her career path is so impressive. She is definitely someone that inspires me.

Until my next post, stay safe, stay strong and keep hope alive!

Love,
