With the growing list of diseases in our world today, there has been a need, now more than ever, to eat healthy. The health food industry is a billion-dollar industry with companies producing items such as food supplements (vitamins and herbal products), natural and organic foods and beverages etc. The need to cut back on processed foods and sugar has been the order of the day.
A more recent health rave, however, is the idea of boycotting the use of seasoning cubes in our cooking. Seasoning cubes are known to contain an ingredient known as Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) which is a flavor enhancer, and it has been reported to have caused several health issues in people. It is present in processed foods, fast foods, chips, instant noodles, canned soups, soy sauce, seasoning powders etc. Its use is controversial but the only way to avoid any of the symptoms associated with it is to avoid foods containing MSG.
If you want to join this train, the best place to start is your own kitchen. But how do you cook meals without seasoning cubes? Are you just setting yourself up for a lifetime of bland food? We have been cooking with seasoning cubes since birth so how do we just do away with it?
The truth is that there are many natural spices that God has graciously blessed us with that some of us are not even aware of. They contain all the essential nutrients that our bodies need without the side effects associated with MSG. Examples include garlic, ginger, thyme, turmeric, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, parsley, coriander, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper, onion and so many others. Using a mix of these herbs and spices can provide a burst of flavors that could make you kiss seasoning cubes goodbye forever. I am pretty sure you won’t miss your favorite seasoning cubes brand.
Are you #TeamSeasoningCubes or #TeamNoMSG? Will you attempt to try to make the transition or you can’t be bothered?
Until my next post, stay safe, stay strong and keep hope alive!
Love,
Peony N Spice
