A friend of mine set me up with this colleague of hers that she couldn’t stop raving about. She wanted to hook us up so badly and gave him my number. She told me that a cute guy was going to call me and that I should be ready for a date. I obliged reluctantly only because I was a little bit bored with the routine I had settled into and needed an adventure.
Steve called me one evening. He sounded really nice. He proceeded to give me the details of how he got my number and said he would like to meet. He was a gentleman. We had a decent conversation and agreed to meet a few days later. He called hours to the date to ask what kind of meal I would prefer and that he would pick me up at the set time.
I opened my door at the second doorbell ring and there stood my tall glass of chocolate milk! We exchanged pleasantries, he walked me up to his car and opened the door for me. I melted. I had found my Mr. Right. The day could not have started any better. We stopped by a Mexican Restaurant and had a good meal with lots of talking and laughing. I didn’t want the day to end. But then he mentioned something….his pets.
I mean, I am not one to keep pets and it is certainly not a deal breaker. But when Steve showed me the photos of his pets, I passed out… inside. How I managed to remain composed for the rest of the date is still a mystery to me. Dude kept giant snakes, newts and some other crawling creatures as pets. He had converted a room in his home to keep these animals. He was fascinated by them. He even mentioned that maybe I could stop by one day to see them. Ehhhhhh, not happening!
To round off our date, he took me to a pet shop to get food for his snakes – frozen rabbits. That was it for me. Trust me to take it all in. I smiled, asked a lot of questions but once he dropped me back home with a goodbye hug, I knew that it was over even before it started. I love to see animals in a zoo but to have them live in a house- a potential boyfriend’s house, a potential husband’s house, bruhhhhhhhh.
That was the last time I spoke with Steve. It was a lovely start to the date but the animal thing threw me off balance big time. I really wished it didn’t end that way. I told my friend AKA “Connector

International” what happened and till date she still mocks me saying, “In the morning, when you guys wake up he will say to you “Honey, let’s go feed the snakes””. Haha!
Until my next post, stay safe, stay strong and keep hope alive!
Love,
Peony N Spice
