Ferrari or Not?

A few days ago, it was shared on social media that Femi Otedola, one of the richest men in Nigeria, had purchased a Ferrari for each of his three daughters – Tolani, Florence and Temi.
There were mixed reactions online. One “keypad warrior” wrote that the cost of the cars was enough to eradicate poverty. Some group of people congratulated them and “tapped” into the blessing, another group lamented as to why their own parents could not match this kind gesture while others were looking for ways to assert themselves into the Otedola family. Oh dear! Social media is a mad house. So many memes and comments.
Will I buy my kids Ferraris? I don’t know but l don’t see anything wrong with a father buying gifts for his kids especially when he can afford it. The cost of the three ferraris combined is not even up to 1% of his net worth. Let that sink in.
But should we now crucify our parents for not being able to provide us with this kind of luxury? Absolutely not. Our parents did and are still doing the best they can for us. I mean, some parents sold all they had to cater for their kids. This wasn’t 1% of their net worth. This was literarily their entire existence -100% of their being.
And to the guy who asked why Otedola did not use the money to help the poor instead, really? Is he the Nigerian government? Why will you tell a man how to spend his hard earned money? He runs a foundation and I am sure he does his bit for the poor. He decides to spoil his kids for a minute, and it’s a problem? You need to take a chill pill.
This post is really to appreciate our parents. Ferrari or not, we see you, we appreciate you for your love and all the sacrifices you have made and keep making. We know how hard you worked to raise us and we will forever be grateful.
Congratulations to the Otedola girls. And to every hardworking individual out there, keep pushing.
Until my next post, stay safe, stay strong and keep hope alive!

Love,
